Welcome, pupils and parents to our end of year Newsletter. Can you believe that the year is over and we are about to begin our summer holidays! Hopefully this newsletter will provide you with lots of information about the new dancing year 2016/2017 and all our exciting plans for the forthcoming year.

END OF YEAR: Almost unbelievable that the summer holidays are upon us and another year has passed us by. The end of this dancing year has culminated in our largest RAD Ballet Examination session to date. Held over 4 days and involving over 150 students, we welcomed 3 examiners from Italy, Australia and the UK to our sessions at Woodlands School in Coleshill. All students (and parents) involved worked extremely hard over the past 10 weeks and we await the results which should be sent through during August.

Arabesque started the dancing year preparing students for our IDTA session back in November and December 2015 with a record number of students taking grade tap exams and continuing our exam success with high marks and a 100% pass rate. Well done everyone.

The school has entered over 350 students this past year for examinations and this is a fantastic achievement as the students continue to work hard with new syllabuses and harder exam content and yet still continue to get higher marks each year.

We have held our IDTA presentation afternoon for both Solihull and Sutton Coldfield students at Coleshill Town Hall. which were a resounding success and much enjoyed by all.

Easter 2016 saw a new addition to Arabesque School of Dance when we took over Arden School of Dance in Knowle and we welcomed a lovely new group of students to our school, we hope you have enjoyed becoming part of Arabesque School of Dance.

STUDENT NEWS: Lots of our students are nervously awaiting their GCSE and A’Level exam results and we wish them lots of luck and hope that their hard work has paid off. This past year has seen some of our students audition and be part of many exciting dance related projects including; associate classes with the Royal Academy of Dance in Birmingham, several students successfully auditioning for Midland Theatre Ballet. Well Done to all students.

If you are interested in participating in any external dance related events, please look out for notices at dancing and posts on our facebook page.

NEWS :  As many of you are aware Miss Louise is due to have her baby any day now and will start her maternity leave in September and will return to classes in January 2017. Miss Michelle, Miss Jayde and Miss Jessica will cover Miss Louise’s classes during the week and we welcome Miss Lizzie (RAD RTS) to cover all classes at Sharmans Cross on Saturdays.

Look out on facebook for any news regarding the new arrival and youngest addition to the Arabesque team J !

Miss Michelle’s dad, John, sadly passed away in June and Miss Michelle would like to say a huge thank you for all the kind words and support students and parents have given over this very hard time, it is much appreciated.

TIMETABLE CHANGES AND MOVING UP: At the moment we don’t envisage any major timetable changes however there will be some so please check the website www.balletdance.co.uk just in case your class has changed. A copy of your current centre timetable for 2016/2017 will be attached to your invoice so please check your new invoice over the summer for timetable information and class details also.

Any child who is ready to move or change classes will be given an information slip detailing their new class and times with their invoice for the new term, if you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact us.

INVOICING & PRICING: Please remember that we now invoice 3 times a year and that payment must be made within 2 weeks of receiving your invoice. There has been an unprecedented amount of unpaid or forgotten invoices this past term and it takes a lot of time to chase late payers. Unlike other schools, we are extremely reasonable if parents have any struggles to pay their invoice on time, however you must contact us so that we work together to come to an arrangement. It isn’t fair that we continue to teach your child if the invoice isn’t paid and should this situation happen again we may have to revaluate our procedures for unpaid invoices.

Unfortunately due to high increases in hall hire and after freezing prices for the past 3 years despite rent increases, we are having to put prices up on normal classes (30 minutes, 40 minutes) by £1.00 therefore the new price for a 30 minute class will be £6.00 and a 40 minute + class will be £7.00. All additional classes will remain at £2.50. This increase is with immediate effect.

All invoices for Autumn Term 2016 should be paid before students return in September. You can BACS payment (please email fees@tickety-boo.uk.com stating your child’s name and centre) or pay cash during the first week of term.

EXAMINATIONS 2016/2017: We are looking to hold 2 exam sessions next year, an IDTA session for graded tap and rosettes and stardance awards in Ballet, Tap and Freestyle and an RAD session for Pre-primary upwards. We are hopeful to hold the IDTA & RAD session at Easter 2017, this is later than previous years due to Miss Louise being on maternity leave. We have achieved some of our highest ever marks for examinations this past year and are keen to continue this throughout our next dancing year. All students who we believe are ready to take their exams will be notified upon our return to dancing after the Christmas holidays. Although exams are not compulsory they are a fantastic experience and even though they require hard work and dedication it is wonderful after working so hard in class to receive a certificate and medal acknowledging your commitment and achievement, also any budding dance teachers will need these exams if they wish to take it up as a career. Older students can even use their credits towards their GCSE’s and other exams and UCAS points.

Please note that if you commit to taking an exam, especially RAD Ballet exams, students are expected to attend 10 additional classes plus a rehearsal leading up to the exam date. This is extremely important in order to prepare the students fully for their exam and is led by the RAD guidelines. Did you know that Grade 1-3 students should be attending 60 hours of continuous learning before taking their exam? The RAD website clearly outlines in their exam specification the requirements students must fulfil before being put forward for their exam.

SHOW 2017: After the huge success of ‘Disney Delights’ our 2015 dance showcase, 2017 will see Arabesque School of Dance dust off the sequins and tutus ready for our 2017 dance showcase. Show work will start after Christmas and we are very excited to come up with new choreography and start preparations.

We have already booked the Town Hall in Birmingham for our next dance showcase in 2017 and if you plan that far ahead the dates for your diary are July 2nd and 9th 2017!
