Chaperones 2025 'The Greatest Show'

Dear Parent,

REQUEST FOR LICENSED CHAPERONES & PARENT VOLUNTEERS: ‘MYTHS & LEGENDS AT Sutton Town Hall 5th July 2025 and Albany Theatre, Coventry 13th July 2025.

Without chaperones, quite simply, the show could not go on.

We need over 170 chaperones, dressers, and parent helpers to put the show on and this requires commitment from all the families of our students.

Backstage legislation has changed, and we now require 1 licensed chaperone per 12 children backstage.

You can become a licensed chaperone by applying to the council you pay your council tax to. Some councils charge a fee for this service, some do not.

The application process varies per council however the process is similar and requires the following:

  • Application Form with a passport signed photograph.
  • 2 references.
  • Enhanced DBS check which will require you to present original copies of government issue ID and specific types of correspondence showing proof of address.
  • Interview (either in person or online, varies dependent on council).
  • Training (online or in person).

The process can take up to 4 months to be approved so we need parents, grandparents, family members (over the age of 18) to apply asap. For any council that charges a fee, we will cover this cost. For every person who volunteers to apply to become a licensed chaperone we will offer 1 free ticket to a show of your choice as a thank you, as we appreciate the time and inconvenience this process can take. If anyone needs any assistance applying or has any questions about this, please contact me direct: louise@balletdance.co.uk.

We also need Parent volunteers who already hold enhanced DBS certificates, dated within the last 3 years of the show date and a small number of parent volunteers.

The role of the chaperone/dresser/volunteer is to look after the student’s wellbeing and ensure a safe and caring environment.

We cannot guarantee that you will be looking after your own child, as every student needs a chaperone, and it is vital to the running of the show that all the students are looked after not just your own child. All the children will be well cared for and often are ‘better’ with someone else other than ‘mum’ or ‘dad’’.

We really appreciate your help and support and hope that you will enjoy the experience.

As a dresser/chaperone, you will be expected to attend the full dress and technical rehearsal and will be required for 1 of the 2 performances on the Sunday. We kindly ask that you can arrive earlier than the students and do not leave until the last child in your group has been collected.

You will also need to attend a chaperone meeting date and time to be confirmed. This is where groups and dressing rooms will be assigned, and you will meet the other dressers including the head chaperone for each room and group. We will also run through the show and organise which shows you will be chaperoning.

Please can you fill out and submit the online form below before 21st March 2025 to confirm your offer of help. I need to have received the form before I confirm the chaperones.

Once the forms have been received, you will be contacted via email/message in due course to let you know further details.

Many Thanks Miss Louise
